Fun Ideas

What were some fun things that you liked to do in science classes at a young age. I just want some ideas to help me futher my understanding of what students like to do in science classes. For eample did you ever do experiements, have class pets, or study something like the big bang theory that interested you in a way that makes you still remember them? Thank you so much for your help!

My favorite part of science class was always the experiments. Hands on learning is the easiest and most fun way to learn. My favorite experiment in 7th grade science was when we disected frogs. Also, we did have a class tarantula which made me want to be in class more. -Donavan Fincher

Science was my favorite subject throughout elementary and middle school. In sixth grade my school had what we called an “Invention Convention.” This was a whole unit where in the beginning we learned about random invention and inventor, and why their inventions were successful. We then had to make an invention of our own. We presented it to the rest of the grade and to parents at the inventions convention. After everything was over each student could apply for a “patent,” this said that we had turned all the steps for the project in and on time. I hope this idea helps.

The thing about young children especially in a older category, they love doing hands on work. A teacher lecturing a class, expecially with the subject of science would not interest the children at all. My favorite part in science class was when we did group projects. A majority of the students will not be fond of the subject, therefore, if they work with other people not only will be it be easier for them, they may actually grow to like it.

In eighth grade, every Friday three students presented science experiments to the class. These students were assigned by the teacher, everyone got a turn to do this. We had to look up the experiment ourselves and be able to scientifically explain the experiment. For every experiment we presented to the class, or even the experiments we did during class that the teacher presented to us, we always had to turn in our scientific methods assignment...you know...Problem, hypothesis, observation, etc. Doing these experiments were really fun and always having to do the scientific method with them embedded the scientific method and all of its steps into our heads, but thats a good thing because I have learned from experience that we see the scientific method all throughout high scool and even in college science classes.

I absolutely loved the bean experiment. Where you got to put a big huge white bean in a ziplock with a paper towel that was soaked in water, and hang in it in the sunlight. After a couple of days, you got to see the bean sprout and grow in this bag. Awesome way to teach how plants grow!

In my science classes I really enjoyed all of the different experiments we had. Even though I didn't disect the frog and baby pig myself, I enjoyed watching.I think working on hand-on projects are more effective in the classroom. That way everyone can be involved. -Shelly

I loved doing experiments when i was kid. One of my favorites was the one where you get an egg inside of a 2 liter bottle. I always loved watching that one.
